There
is lots to do and see in the Cape !
Not only the sea and beach but also the village along the beach front
are only a few minutes walk from our Guesthouse. From the village, you
can take the train to Cape Town or in the other direction towards Cape
Point past Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek with nice shopping and restaurants.
In Cape Town there is of course lots to do, like shopping at the Waterfront,
where you will also find the Two Oceans Aquarium and the boat to Robben
Island, where Nelson Mandela had been a prisoner for so long, and of course
the famous Table Mountain, when the weather is clear. Every
day except Sundays there is a big flea market on Green Market Square where
you can buy many things for very good prices.
There are plenty museums,
among them the Castle of Good Hope in the middle of town. Don't forget
to visit the huge tourist office, where you can not only find all the
information you may need, but also drink and eat something or even taste
the South African wines. ** For the above and here after mentioned trips,
you don't need to rent a car.
- A small walk (not
even half an hour) along the sea to St. James is another possibility
and you could return over the Main Road, where there are some small
museums you could visit, like Rhodes Cottage and the Posthuys.
- On Sundays there
is a very nice flee market, only a few minutes walk, near the beach.
- Across the street
is the Vlei (lagoon), with its many bird species (like King fishers!),
pick nick area and windsurfing (a little up the Vlei).
In short, a week
is gone before you know it, and still you have not used the car.
Golf
For those who like their golf, the Westlake Golf course is only 5km away
from our Guesthouse. Visit their website www.westlakegolfclub.co.za.
Of course if you want
to take the car out for a short drive you can visit "Kaap de Goede Hoop
National Park" and the lowest tip called "Cape Point". In the park you
will see a lot of wildlife including baboons and indigenous plants called
fijnbos.
Before
you reach the Park you could also
visit the penguin colony in Simon's Town.

- At Hout Bay you
can take a boat to "Duiker Island", where you find a large colony of
seals.
There
are also possibilities to go diving or deep sea finishing.
Also you find here the biggest bird park of South Africa.
- The wine routes
are also very worthwhile and you can go to Paarl, Franschhoek or to
Stellenbosch (not all 3 in one day). Stellenbosch (the most famous)
is really worthwhile, because it stayed really authentic and has a very
relax atmosphere.

- Visit the town
of Hermanus from July to November and you can see the whales.
This
trip is easy to combine with a visit to the gardens at
Caledon, where you can see the famous huge Protean.
A bit further away
:
- Lamberts Bay with
its colony of Gannets and West Coast National Park.
